Montgomery is Officer of the Year
Pearsall Police K-9 Officer Lindsey Montgomery has been named Officer of the Year for 2021, earning the highest honors in the department.
Montgomery began her career with the Pearsall PD in November 2018 and worked her way up the ranks to canine handler in October 2020. She serves as a field training officer, a supervisory role for instructing and mentoring younger officers in police procedure and protocol.
“She is a leader among her peers,” Pearsall Police Chief Humberto Torralba II wrote in a prepared statement. “She is respected by her co-workers and is highly regarded as a well-rounded individual who displays the highest work ethic as a police officer.”
Chief Torralba presented Montgomery with a plaque in recognition of the honor on April 12.
“I believe Officer Montgomery has exemplified, through her actions, the professional standards highly regarded by the Pearsall Police Department,” the chief said. “It is a very difficult to determine which officers are deserving of this prestigious award. However, I believe Officer Montgomery’s daily actions and her successful narcotics arrests during the year have made her eligible for this award.”
Montgomery and her canine, Xena, attended a week-long training in Laredo in August 2021, a course in dual-purpose narcotics detection, tracking and officer protection techniques. The pair received accolades from the National Narcotics Association.
Two months previously, she had been named Officer of the Quarter for the months of April through June 2021.
The award was established in 2018 to recognize the outstanding achievement of officers and honors those who work tirelessly every day to make the community safer, according to the police chief.
“Her efforts have gone above and beyond the work expected of her as a police officer,” Torralba said. “Her efforts have strengthened our relationship with our community and no doubt improved safety and crime prevention.”
Alvarez is Officer of the Quarter
The Pearsall Police Department as named Officer Anthony Alvarez as the officer of the quarter for the final quarter of 2021, citing his proactive policing and familiarity with the community.
Munoz, who began his career with the department in 2021, earns the fourth quarter accolade for his commendable achievement in the superior performance of his duties, according to Chief Humberto Torralba II.
“He has shown personal integrity, selfless devotion to duty, meticulous attention to detail and professionalism that he has demonstrated to the community,” the chief wrote in a prepared statement. “Officer Alvarez distinguishes himself as a police officer with class and inspires his colleagues with excellent communication skills.”
Torralba said he feels that Alvarez has gained the trust and confidence of the community in the year that he has served on patrol.
Ximenez is Officer of the Quarter
Pearsall Detective Sergeant Nathaniel Ximenez has proven to be an instrumental component to the police department, for which he has earned top honors as officer of the quarter for the months of January through March.
Ximenez began his career with the Pearsall Police Department in 2021 as a patrol officer and quickly earned his way up the ranks to the criminal investigations division in March 2021.
The detective earns the first quarter accolade for his excellence in knowing and recognition of the people in the community he serves, according to Chief Humberto Torralba II.
“He is a leader and an excellent representation of the Pearsall Police Department,” the chief wrote in a prepared statement. “He always produces quality work, even under stress, and is completely reliable. His job performance is outstanding, which has recently allowed him the promotion to the rank of sergeant.”
