DISTRICT 27/28 AREA TRACK MEET
Cotulla will send four athletes to regional competition following action at the District 27/28 Area Meet April 20 in Columbus.
Raeann Charo and Brianna Wilson both won area titles in their respective events and will be joined by Jasmine De La Garza and Jacob Garcia at the Class 3A Region IV meet at Matador Stadium in Seguin on April 29 and 30.
Charo was the area champion in the 100m dash, winning by an eighth of a second at 12.29. She was also second in the 200m dash at 26.16. Wilson took the area title in the discus as she took first with a throw of 114’11”. De La Garza was fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 8’6” in the event.
Garcia was fourth in the pole vault for the Cowboys, topping a height of 10′.
“The girls will polish up these next four days to get competition ready for the regional meet,” CHS Girls’ Head Coach Susan Garcia said. “They continue to work hard and I’m looking forward to this weekend.”
Charo was also eighth in the long jump, with a leap of 15’5-1/4”, Kayli Galindo was fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 53.44, Aubrianna Cantu was seventh in the 200m dash at 28.58 and Mia Garcia was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 7′.
In the boys’ division, Alejandro Medina was fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 54.72, Cesar Maldonado was eighth in the 300m hurdles at 46.78, Jose Gonzalez took seventh in the 200m dash, clocking in at 23.90 and was also seventh in the long jump with a leap of 19’3”; Robert Sanchez was seventh in the discus with a throw of 109’1” and eighth in the shot put at 40’1”.
The top four area qualifiers advance to the regional meet. Only the top two athletes at regionals move on to the state meet.
