DISTRICT 29-30 AREA TRACK MEET
Pearsall’s Mavs and Lady Mavs were both third overall in action at the District 29/30 Area Track meet in Uvalde on Wednesday, April 20.
Devine dominated the girls’ field with 161 points while Somerset won the boys’ field with 133 points. The Lady Mavs tallied 94 points and the Mavs rolled up 98 points.
Pearsall saw 19 athletes qualify for the regional meet as nine Mavs and ten Lady Mavs finished fourth or better in their respective events.
“We are excited to have so many athletes qualify for regionals,” PHS boys’ track coach Julian Hernandez said. “They have worked hard and deserve to compete in Kingsville.
“We are very pleased with how the athletes competed, we had a lot of personal bests and season bests and the athletes really responded well to the competition. Overall we are very proud of our student athletes this year and hope to continue the success moving forward.”
PHS girls’ coach Arlene Silva was equally impressed with her team’s performance.
“We did a great job,” she said. “We represented the district and competed well and we’re still progressing and achieving personal goals.
“We are looking forward to regional competition. Our coaching staff has done a great job and all the credit goes to our kids for keeping their eyes, ears and minds open.”
