BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFFS

Dilley hung tough with state-ranked Hallettsville but eventually dropped two straight games in losing their bi-district playoff series last Thursday in Kenedy.
The Lady Wolves fell 8-1 in the first game but had missed scoring opportunities, including leaving the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Dilley also allowed six of the eight runs in the third.
“I thought our girls played tough in the first game,” DHS Head Coach Daniel Autrey said. “Although we had some errors in the field, I thought our girls were able to keep the game under control. We got runners on and were just not able to come through with a hit to bring them in.”
Hallettsville came on strong from the outset of the second and deciding game, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings of a 21-0 victory.
“The second game allowed some of our younger girls to get some experience in the field against a state-ranked team,” the coach said. “Hopefully, this experience keeps us motivated to make a better run next year. I am extremely happy with the girls and how they did not shy away from the challenge.”
The Lady Brahmas collected 13 hits in their opening contest while Dilley knocked in eight hits.
Senior Kaydie Valdez led the team as she went three for four with a run scored with a double and a stolen base.
Dakota San Miguel was also two for three at the plate.
Faith Aranda went four innings, allowing eight runs on ten hits and struck out one. Chloe Rodriguez came in relief and did not surrender a run on three hits in two innings of work.
Hallettsville added 25 hits in game two and limited the Lady Wolves to two for the contest.
Valdez and San Miguel accounted for both hits while Aranda, junior Krysten Ruiz and sophomore Aracely Aranda combined to go give innings on the mound.
Dilley closes out its season with an 18-14-1 record overall. The team was 7-7 in league play and finished fourth in the final standings.
The Lady Wolves overcame a 2-5 start in league play and eventually won five of its last seven games down the stretch to earn the fourth and final playoff berth.
