Scholarship offered in honor of fallen Frio deputy
Pearsall and Dilley High School seniors interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement can apply for the ‘Smile for Justin’ Memorial Scholarship by May 16, 2022.
Longoria was a corporal detective for the Frio County Sheriff’s Office when he was killed on his way to work in an automobile accident in April 2021. The scholarship program is aimed at creating educational opportunities for deserving students who wish to pursue a career in law enforcement.
A 500-word essay detailing the applicant’s background, plans for the future and how they hope to better themselves and their community should be submitted to Frio County Lieutenant Joshua Longoria, the late officer’s brother, no later than May 16, 2022. The scholarship will provide up to $500.
All applicants must be in good standing with their respective learning institution, including having little to no disciplinary or attendance issues.
Essays can be submitted in person to the sheriff’s office or by email to joshlongoria@friosheriff.org.
One recipient from each school will be selected on May 20. Further information on the scholarship is available by email from Lt. Longoria.
