2022 PHS SPRING SPORTS BANQUET
Following a successful sports season in which teams captured five district championships and made multiple playoff appearances, Pearsall coaches celebrated a year of achievements by its athletes during the annual Spring Sports Banquet on Monday, May 16 at the PHS cafeteria.
2022 Maverick & Lady Mav Award Winners
Sebastian Talamantes & Karlina Rodriguez
Sebastian Talamantes and Karlina Rodriguez were awarded the Maverick and Lady Maverick honors, awarded to student-athletes that exemplify the qualities of being a Maverick or Lady Mav at PHS.
Maverick Club scholarship recipients included Talamantes, Rodriguez, Janel Luna, Nicholas Martinez, Destiny Sanchez, Kaitlyn Gandara, Saynika Weaver, Christian Mendez and Izayah Ramirez.
The Maverick Club is the volunteer athletic booster organization that raises funds for the high school and junior high athletes and coaches.
Following a barbecue dinner, award winners were named for each sport.
Winners are as follows: Football: MVP – Hector Monroy, Offensive MVP – Joey Ramirez, Defensive MVP – Sebastian Talamantes and Corbin Norris, Heart Award – Antonio Ortiz, Leadership Award – Matt Hughes and Christian Mendez; Volleyball: MVP – Karlina Rodriguez, Offensive MVP – Alyssa Garcia, Defensive MVPs – Sophia Garza and Ebony Garza; Cross Country: Boys’ MVP – Zaine Leal, Girls’ MVP – Ebony Garza; Tennis: Boys’ MVP – Isay Hernandez, Girls’ MVP – Karina Rodriguez; Golf: Boys’ MVP – Cody Sekula, Girls’ MVP – Kara Sekula; Powerlifting: Boys’ MVP – Gabriel Gutierrez, Girls’ MVP – Llubia Rodriguez; Boys’ Basketball: Team MVP – David “Bear” Rendon, Offensive MVP – Marco Camacho, Defensive MVPs – Julian Baez and Nick Martinez, inaugural Eliseo Martinez Heart Award – Xavier Rendon; Girls’ Basketball: Team MVPs – Natalie Vega and Karlina Rodriguez, Offensive MVP – Sophie Garza, Defensive MVP – Sarah Brady and Alyssa Garcia; Baseball: Team MVPs – Sebastian Talamantes and Izayah Ramirez, Offensive MVP – Damien Longoria, Defensive MVPs – Abram Garcia and Joseph Telles; Softball: Team MVPs – Destiny Sanchez and Ebony Garza, Offensive MVPs – Kristen Morales and Maddie Bradley, Defensive MVP – Carissa Elizondo; Boys’ Track & Field: Team MVPs – Joey Ramirez and Joseph De La Rosa, Heart Award – Jayden Gonzales, Leadership Award – Weston Hurst; Girls’ Track & Field: Team MVPs – Jezzie Leal and Esmeralda Gonzales, Heart Award – Giselle Castillo and Saynika Weaver, Leadership Award – Ebony Garza and Samara Gandara.
