The Moore Community Improvement Club is reminding residents that San Antonio Food Bank Regional Outreach Specialist Ezra Ortiz will be at the Moore Community Center on May 20 to assist those interested in qualifying for programs the organization offers.
Ortiz is scheduled to offer his services in Moore each third Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering information on programs intended to improve family wellness, including SNAP, TSAP, TANF, CHIP, WIC and others to assist citizens of the community.
The Senior Box program in Moore has already helped 45 families in the immediate community with nutritional needs and MCIC members hope to reach others to offer ways to improve their quality of life.
“A special thanks to Rosa Cubriel, Juantia Correra, Butch and Claudia Sturdevant and their team of volunteers for all their efforts with the Senior Box program and commodity distribution,” MCIC representative Shelley Delgado said. “They provided over 80 families with commodities last week and they are in need of volunteers to help with the next distribution in July.
“Anyone wishing to contribute can contact Rosa Cubriel at (830) 931-1740.”
The MCIC has partnered with STX Baggers to promote and provide oversight for the Cornhole Tournament during the Moore Summer Fest event slated for July 16 at the Moore Community Center. There will be prizes for first and second place teams and the cost of the Cornhole Tournament entry fee is $40 per team. There is a limited number of cook-off and vendor spots. The cost to compete in this year’s brisket cookoff is $125 with opportunities to compete in three categories for prize money, trophies and bragging rights. Contact Jesse Carrasco at (210) 326-6320 or Bobby Evans at (830) 355-7564 to sign up for the brisket cook-off.
Additionally, there will be a Show and Shine event, live entertainment and carnival games. Additional details will be provided as they become available. The next Summer Fest Committee meeting is on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
Vendor spots remain available at a cost of $40 for an approximately 10′ x 10′ area. Vendors can contact Shelley Delgado (210) 889-9350 with any questions. The MCIC is currently seeking donations for its silent auction.
