Lloyd Benjamin Cook Jr., 93, died on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Veranda Assisted Living with his daughters by his side. He was born on August 19, 1928 in San Antonio to Leah (Smith) and Lloyd Benjamin Cook Sr.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters Gloria Hunter and Nora Lee Sellers.
Cook is survived by his daughters Carol Ann Colshan (Larry) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Mary Leigh Schutza (Curtis) of Little Elm, Texas, grandchildren Erin, Emily, Matthew, and Sarah Colshan and Jill Schutza Hoffman, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lloyd graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1947 and then attended Texas A&M University. In 1950, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served for two years in Korea during the war. After returning home, he continued his education at Texas A&M and received a Master’s Degree in Education. While in school, he met Ann Hudson and they were married on April 3, 1953 in Pearsall. Ann and Lloyd were married for over 56 years until her passing in 2010. After receiving his degree, he began his teaching career as a Vocational Agriculture Teacher at Floydada High School. Several years later, he and Ann moved back to Pearsall to be closer to family where he worked with his father at Beall Cook Chevrolet. In the mid 1970’s, he returned to his teaching career at Uvalde High School and Eagle Pass High School.
Lloyd’s hobbies included traveling. His favorite places to visit were New Mexico, Colorado, Yellowstone Park, and Alaska. He and his family spent many summers camping in state and national parks. After retirement, he and Ann spent two summers in Yellowstone and even drove to Alaska. He enjoyed driving his truck to see the countryside and would often take road trips to visit friends and family all over the US.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde. Visitation with the family followed.
