Party nominees now all set for November general election
Results of the May 24 primary election run-offs were posted late Tuesday by officials in Frio and La Salle counties.
The run-off elections were ordered after none of the candidates in several primary races in March secured more than 50 percent of the vote on the ballots in which several were vying for their party nomination.
Winners of the primaries in the Democratic and Republican parties will be on the ballot in the November general election for a variety of local government positions.
Preliminary results pending official canvassing by county commissioners in Frio and La Salle, as posted on election night, were as follows:
Candidates for the Democratic Party nomination for Frio County judge were Mary Moore and Rochelle Lozano Camacho. Election officials reported that Camacho earned 1,084 votes for the nomination over Moore, who earned 986 votes.
Candidates for Pct. 2 commissioner included incumbent Dickie Graf and challenger Mario Martinez. Early results indicate Martinez has taken the nomination with 302 votes to unseat incumbent Graf, who earned 197.
Running for the vacated commissioner’s seat in Pct. 4 were Juan Danny Cano and Noelda Garcia. Early results indicate Cano won the run-off with 374 votes over Garcia’s 188 votes.
Candidates for 81st Judicial District judge for the Republican Party were Trent Rowell and Jennifer Dillingham. Results for the multi-county race were not available at presstime Tuesday. In La Salle County, Rowell took 20 votes; Dillingham took 16.
Vying for the nomination for La Salle County clerk on the Democratic Party ticket were Arturo Carbajal and Sonia Maldonado. Tuesday’s results indicate Maldonado won the race with 538 votes to Carbajal’s 521.
La Salle Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace George Trigo faced several challengers in March, of whom Ernesto “Neto” Ramirez emerged as front runner. Tuesday’s results indicate Ramirez won the run-off for the party nomination ousting the incumbent with 228 votes to Trigo’s 182.
