Vacancy filled after nine months
Dilley city councilors voted Monday, June 27, to hire Henry Arredondo to fill the vacant position of city administrator.
The motion, which was supported unanimously, was made contingent on contract changes that were discussed behind closed doors.
The decision came five days after councilors directed the mayor to negotiate the terms of a contract with Arredondo.
Councilors returned from a two-hour closed-door session to direct Mayor Gilbert Eguia to start contract negotiations with Arredondo.
Councilor Alexandria Inocencio made the move to hire Arredondo and was supported by the remaining councilors.
The motion authorizes the mayor to “offer a conditional letter with terms and to negotiate employment with Henry Arredondo for city administrator.”
The city has been without a full-time city administrator since Juan Estrada was let go on September 14, 2021. Secretary Juanita Fonseca was appointed to interim city manager in March this year.
Fonseca said the city received three applications for the position but that one applicant later withdrew before the interview process began.
An open records request to City Hall for Arredondo’s application and resume was made Thursday, June 22, and has not been fulfilled as of presstime.
