Jose (Joe) Galvan Sr., 85, a long-time resident of Cotulla, died on July 10, 2022 at his home. He was born in Cotulla on September 11, 1936 to Luis Sr. and Maria S. Galvan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Galvan is survived by his wife of 64 years Maggie Galvan, his daughter Norma Galvan (Marion Adams), sons Rickey Galvan (Tammie), Joe Galvan Jr. (June), Rakow Galvan, and Eloy Galvan (Yolanda). He is survived by eight grandchildren Joe (Joey) Ill, Desiree, Michael, Corey, Dalton, Shelby, Ronny, and Jasmyn, 11 great-grandkids Caden, RJ, Hannah, Ryan, Jaslynn, Ryhanna, Drake, Kameron, Aaron, Mylin, and Juanito. He is also survived by his sisters Eudelia Elizondo, Belen Martinez and brother Rafael (Sonny) Galvan along with several nieces and nephews.

In the rodeo circuit he was known to his friends as Little Cat. He competed in calf roping all over South Texas, riding horses and winning saddles along the way. One of his biggest highlights was competing in New York’s Madison Square Garden alongside world champion Juan Salinas.

Galvan was the owner of Galvan Construction for many years. He would round up cattle with his friends and sons just for the thrill of riding. He served as a La Salle County Constable in the early 1970’s, and he was also a volunteer firefighter, serving as fire chief in the early days. He played an instrumental part in the starting of the Wild Hog Cook-Off.
Pallbearers included Joe Galvan Ill, Michael Galvan, Dalton Galvan, Corey Galvan, Caden Garza and Trey Galvan. Honorary Pallbearers are Desiree Galvan, Shelby Galvan, Jasmyn Galvan, and Tim Waitz.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 18 at Peters Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 19 at The Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment followed at the Cotulla Southwest Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Cotulla.
