Dear Magnolia,
I was having a talk with a friend recently. We were discussing positive and negative attitudes, and self-care. She was telling me about how the way we talk to ourselves can really influence the outcome of our days. I heard what she’s saying, but I don’t quite get that part. What does she mean the way we talk to ourselves?
Help!
Renee
Dear Renee,
Go look at yourself in a mirror for just a minute. Really look, though… don’t just glance. Spend some time there. Can you hear yourself observing? So many of us are so crazy negative without even realizing that we’re speaking to ourselves in there!
Like, maybe you aren’t even negative to yourself, but subconsciously you’re judging, you know? By nature, we’re critical. The problem is that we totally shouldn’t be.
The things you tell yourself in your own head have a ton of power. It can set your whole day off right or your whole day off totally wrong. The more time you spend in there telling yourself negative things, the more you’ll believe those negative things.
We all need to be better to ourselves, like we would be to our friends, and so many people would be better off if they actively made it like a goal to do it. Everybody should have some positive affirmations, or mantras… whatever works.
You should be comfortable and accepting of hearing yourself daily saying things like, “I am strong and capable,” or, “I am worthy of respect.” One of my favorites is, “I deserve to have an amazing life.” There’s even apps that are just affirmations and positive words that pop up on your phone. I love mine.
You can give yourself affirmations about your body, about your character, about whatever it is that you come up with. It’s just like speaking positivity into existence! You think, therefore, you totally are! That’s why another one of my favorites is, “This life I will live to the fullest, honestly and truly.”
What you strive to be doesn’t have to just be something you want to think, it can be something you think on purpose. That’s what your friend means when she’s talking about how you talk to yourself. Be good to yourself and you will attract good things with it!
Good vibes always… (especially for yourself!),
Magnolia Jade
