Multi-agency response to reported shooting near downtown
Pearsall police confirmed this week that habitual offender Luis Aguilar was not in a home where an armed stand-off of nearly three hours took place last Wednesday, and investigators are examining the man’s allegedly deadly conduct.
Police say officers were dispatched to the home on Power Plant Road shortly before 8 p.m. after Aguilar, 35, reportedly fired a number of shots towards the owner of the residence.
During questioning by responding officers, the victim claimed that Aguilar was in possession of a homemade pistol.
The victim also reported that rounds had struck a vehicle parked on his property. The man claimed to have last seen Aguilar run into an apartment on the property.
Officers surrounded the home and called in tactical response teams in an effort to negotiate with Aguilar and have him come out of the home.
Frio County Sheriff Mike Morse took control of the scene after the victim reported that Aguilar had become aggressive and refused to leave the home.
The victim told law enforcement officers that he believed Aguilar was still inside the home. Sheriff Morse contacted the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden SWAT and US Border Patrol BORTAC unit for assistance.
“I appreciate all the men and women of the police and sheriff’s department,” Morse said of the incident last Friday. “It is the relationships with these other law enforcement agencies that helped this community. This situation could have gone south quickly.”
Officers succeeded in entering the residence shortly after 11 p.m. and discovered that Aguilar had evaded capture. Sheriff’s deputies then found Aguilar walking along Business IH-35 near the north end of town. The man was taken into custody and transferred to the Frio County Jail without further incident.
Aguilar faces a third-degree felony charge for deadly conduct with a firearm pending the outcome of the investigation.
