Competing in a huge field against schools in the largest classification, Dilley’s Wolves managed to finish eighth overall in a field of 18 teams at the Medina Valley Invitational Cross Country meet on Saturday, August 27.
“We are very pleased with our boys’ and girls’ performances over a tough course at Medina Valley against some state quality competition this past Saturday,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said. “It’s very early in the season and it’s awesome to see three of our varsity boys’ runners in the 17 minute, three-mile range, all are career bests. All of our guys improved anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute from the previous meet against some stout competition.”
Dilley was eighth in the small school division (Class 1A-4A) and the field included 157 runners total.
“On the girls’ side, everyone matched, was within range, or did better from the previous meet’s time on a tougher course, with rolling hills,” the coach said. “Our top varsity girl was unable to finish the race as she fell out of the race with about 800m left with dehydration, we are hoping she gets well soon.”
There were 116 runners in the varsity girls division and 216 in the junior varsity girls’ field.
Varsity boys’ results are as follows: Anthony Guerra, 21st, 17:26, Xavier Hernandez 25th, 17:31, Brazos Viesca, 38th, 17:59, Jorge Herrada 73rd, 19:04, Jacob Garcia 103rd, 20:35, Abraham Rodriguez, 126th, 21:34.
Varsity girls’ results are as follows: Jewlea Tate, 48th, 14:56, Rena Ochoa, 75th, 16:09, Madelyne Proctor, 100th, 17:28.
JV girls’ results are as follows: Klarissa Vasquez, 139th, 17:11, Janessa Mendez, 193rd, 19:50, Bella Proctor, 212th, 24:49.
Dilley’s cross country teams will be in action at home this week as they host the annual Dilley Wolf Pack Cross Country Invitational.
There will be 16 teams in contention and 13 middle schools in action at the event.
The meet begins at 9 a.m. behind Gosch Field as the varsity girls take the course to open the event.
