Malydaln Janet Mitchell, 89, of San Antonio died on August 25, 2022. She was born on May 14, 1933 in Bruni to the late James and Edna Jones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Leon Mitchell, husband Bruce Mitchell and siblings Maxine Burkett, Louise Burt, and Yvonne Campos. She is survived by her children Juanita Burell of Lufkin and Shelley Winn of San Antonio, niece Jenny Lawrence, husband Paul and family of Dayton, Texas, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and extended family.
Malydaln met and married Bruce Wyman Mitchell in 1948 in San Diego, Texas. She owned and operated a ranch that has been in her family for over 100 years in Loma Alta outside of Tilden. She realized her dream of having a game ranch with deer management. She gave a home to many rescue dogs,enjoyed gardening, animals, and dancing, especially square dancing. She served and volunteered in her community on the Child Welfare Board, the Lion’s Club, and other various organizations. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Pearsall and a former member of the American Cancer Society. She was an active and devout member of several historical organizations for many years: Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of Indian Wars, The National Society United States Daughters of 1812, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 10 from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. A burial will be in Pleasanton City Cemetery following services.
For those wishing to make a Memorial Donation in her name, it may be given to the First Baptist Church Youth Group of Pearsall.
