Frio County sheriff’s deputies and Pct. 3 Constable Daniel Zapata have taken two men into custody on felony drug trafficking charges since Friday, September 9, after 27 grams of cocaine were found in their hotel rooms.
Deputies say an investigation was opened into the possible sale of narcotics after anonymous tips were received regarding the amount of traffic at the small hotel.
The officers executed a search warrant Friday for two rooms at a hotel along CR 4600 on the outskirts of Dilley.
Deputies conducting a search of the room discovered narcotics packaged in individual bags, which they report is indicative of drug sales, in a box underneath the television and in a drawer underneath the stove. A digital scale and additional bags were also discovered.
According to the report, deputies discovered 97 bags containing cocaine that weighed 27 grams.
A Dilley man, 37-year-old Ernest Martinez, and Oscar Garcia, 31, of Aspermont, Texas, were arrested and charged with first-degree felonies for possession with intent to deliver cocaine.
“The department is grateful for the working relationship we have with Constable Zapata,” Frio Lt. Joshua Longoria said. “We appreciate the tips from concerned citizens and ask that suspicious activity continue to be reported.”
