2022 HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY
Guerra medals at Bandera; Rodriguez still sidelined for Lady Wolves.
Midway through its season Dilley has been plagued with the injury bug and struggled to field teams at the recent Bandera cross country meet on Saturday, only fielding an entire eighth grade squad at the event.
“The last two weeks have been rough on some of our runners as small injuries have set us back,” DHS Head Cross Country Coach Victor Flores said. “We only had one full team competing this week and that was the eighth grade boys.”
Dilley has also been without the services of top varsity girls’ runner Chloe Rodriguez. Rodriguez went down with an injury during the second meet of the year at Medina Valley and has yet to return to the lineup.
“She continues to battle through adversity and hopefully she can come back to finish out the last part of the season leading up to district,” the coach said. “Despite it all, our healthy runners continue to compete, even on a longer course in Bandera and finish in the top 20 to earn a medal.”
Anthony Guerra was Dilley’s lone varsity medalist, finishing 15th overall at the meet with a time of 19:08. Brazos Viesca was 24th at 19:38 while Jacob Garcia was 54th at 21:21. Adam Rodriguez was 67th overall with a time of 22:18.
Rena Ochoa clocked in at 17:22 for the varsity girls while Madelyne Proctor had a time of 17:57 while junior varsity girls Bella Proctor and Klarissa Vasquez each clocked in a 26:36 and 18:26, respectively.
Junior high results are as follows: seventh grade boys, Elijah Sambrano, seventh, 10:16, Eliberto Lopez, 42nd, 12:35, Isaiah Kinsey, 58th, 13:57, Tristan Goins, 59th, 14:18.
Eighth grade boys, fifth place overall as a team, Rodrigo Cardenas, 17th, 10:52, Josiah Benavides, 18th, 10:52, Jevon Arriazola, 43rd, 11:54, Abel Treviño, 44th, 11:54, Nehemiah Osio, 52nd, 12:34, Zayden Cano, 54th, 12:43.
Seventh grade girls, Jaelyn Rodriguez, 65th, 14:51; eighth grade girls, Jnessa Nickels, 35th, 13:26, Lily Ayala, 39th, 13:31, Edelyn Rodriguez, 45th, 13:47.
Dilley will hope to return to form this week as they will compete at the Islander Splash Cross Country Invitational this week in Corpus Christi.
