COTULLA COWGIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Cotulla needed four sets but prevailed in tough outing to top Natalia in the district volleyball opener last week for both teams.
The Cowgirls took the first set 25-20 but dropped a narrow second 19-25. The team then rallied to win the third and fourth via scores of 25-20 and 25-17.
“The girls played really well,” CHS Head Coach Christine Few said. “It was a great team effort for the win.
We had been on a losing streak, having not won any matches since the Pearsall tournament, where we placed third overall. The girls refocused and continued to work hard at practice to get ready for district, and in our first game, the girls came strong and united to pull through for the win.”
Team captain Allyse Leija led the team with 19 digs, 17 assists, 14 kills while captain Mia Garcia added seven digs, 19 assists and 13 kills.
Alinna Botello tallied seven blocks and four kills while Sedelia Wilson-Larkin finished with four blocks and seven kills. Libero Miranda Gonzalez had 35 service receive attempts, an assist and 19 digs.
Cotulla is 14-14 for the season and 1-0 in district. The team took on Lytle Tuesday evening, September 27 and will be at Hondo on Friday, September 30.
