HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Cotulla split league outings last week, falling to Lytle before notching a win over Hondo to improve to 2-1 for the year in District 28-3A volleyball action last week.
The Cowgirls started well against Lytle, taking the first set before losing three straight to fall in four, 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, 20-25.
“We started off strong in the first game, and then we didn’t adjust well to the Lytle defense after that,” CHS Head Volleyball Coach Christina Few said. “We didn’t hit or attack the ball much and Lytle did.”
The team bounced back on Friday with a five-set marathon against Hondo. Cotulla won the first two sets 25-21. 25-14 before the Lady Owls rallied to take the next two, 25-20, 25-17. Cotulla was then able to pull out a narrow 16-14 victory in the fifth and final set.
“We started off really strong, attacking (hitting) the ball,” the coach said of the Hondo win. “We struggled in the third and fourth games and then came back swinging in the fifth game.”
Cotulla was at Dilley Tuesday evening to take on the Lady Wolves and will host Crystal City on Friday, October 7.
