Margarita Bertha Moreno, 81, of Pearsall, died on September 17, 2022, in San Antonio, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on March 10, 1941 to Federico and Margarita Moreno in Pearsall.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Fred Moreno Jr., Eleazar Moreno, Susie Gonzales, Odessa Ikimoto, Fines Moreno, Irene Martinez, and Maria Del Toro.
Margarita is survived by siblings Eliza Lopez, Abel Moreno Sr., Juanita Duggleby, Rachel Casias, and many nephews and nieces.
She graduated from Pearsall High School in 1958 and following graduation, she joined the US Army on May 27, 1960 and served three years. She was honorably discharged on May 24, 1963 and held various administrative roles/duties.
After completing her service in the Army, she moved to Puerto Rico to pursue her education and received her MBA in Education from Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. She taught high school level biology, chemistry, and marine biology there for 13 years. Upon returning to the states, she lived and taught business English to Spanish speaking students at Miami Dade College. In 1980, she worked with the refugees released during the Cuban refugee crisis. She then returned to Texas to live in Midland, where she taught elementary classes, after which she returned to live in Pearsall and taught elementary at the Dilley ISD. After retirement she was called back to teach middle school English as a Second Language at the Pearsall ISD Intermediate campus. She was very involved in supporting the San Pablo United Methodist church and its ministry in Pearsall.
A memorial service will be held at San Pablo United Methodist Church in Pearsall on Saturday, October 8 at 10 a.m. with interment to follow in the Pearsall Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
