“I love ghosts and scary stories, they’re my favorite.”
“I’m terrified of ghosts, I can’t watch scary movies at all… what’s wrong with you?”
“Oh I have so much fun when I get to wander through a cemetery and just see the history.”
“But why? That’s so morbid!”
It’s that season again. We turn our attention to changing leaves and cooler temperatures, plus a little bonus… the spooky season of Halloween! What is it about ghosts, goblins, and scary stories that grabs the attention of so many, but also is so off-putting to so many? What exactly is it about the paranormal that captivates so well?
Rest easy, friends… those of us that enjoy a good scare or have a deep interest in the paranormal… we’ve got plenty of company. Those that would rather leave it all in the dark corners where it belongs… plenty of company just the same.
So, it might be that you believe in ghosts and think they are fascinating simply because as a person you tend to seek explanations about the things that happen around you. Are you one of those people who can’t help but ask why? Stay curious. There’s nothing wrong with that. Just the same, most of us really want to believe there’s life after death. Whether it’s cultural or for other reasons, it’s a common belief.
Sometimes people believe in ghosts because they have no other choice. If you’ve had personal experiences with ghosts or spirits, it’s hard to deny what you’ve seen with your own eyes. Of course it’s thrilling… some people like roller coasters and scary movies, as well. Some people recognize it’s thrilling, but thrilling makes them want to hurl. Nerves and anxieties can inspire some crazy physical reactions in people, you know. Roller coasters aren’t the only place your nervous friend will throw up on your shoes.
Maybe you’re completely turned off by paranormal or the thought of something scary. Are you the person who won’t look out the window because it’s dark outside and you might see something? I personally admire your willingness to let the monsters continue to quietly lurk, but you’re just the type who isn’t interested in acknowledging them to start with.
Either way, you’re still normal. Whether you do or don’t think there are spirits around you, whether you do or don’t enjoy seeking the thrills and chills, you’re fine.
Don’t feel like you’re weird or strange no matter which camp you spend your days in. Team paranormal fun vs team turn around and run… it’s not a problem! Respect each other, learn from each other, and help each other to grow. Being good to each other as humans is most important, no matter how you feel… always humans first. Ghosts can wait, after all, they’ve got time.
