Texas A&M AgriLife Extension services in Frio and La Salle counties will host a private well water screening early next month for all residents who own and operate on private well water.
Samples will be screened for fecal coliform bacteria, nitrates, salinity, and hydrocarbons. AgriLife recommends that private well owners have their water tested every two years to ensure positive results. The screening day will be Wednesday, October 12. Well owners are encouraged to take the sample from the well that morning and have the samples turned into either La Salle County AgriLife Office, 119 S. Front St, Cotulla; or Frio County AgriLife Office, 400 S Pecan St. Pearsall, by 9 am.
Collection bags are available at both offices or a sterile water bottle can be used.
Results will be returned to the well owner on Friday, October 14. Water samples will be $15 each and well owners can drop off as many samples as needed.
For more questions regarding private well water testing, contact Victoria Wilson, CEA-La Salle, at (830) 483-5165; or Brianna Gonzales, CEA-Frio, at (830) 334-0099.
