DILLEY WOLVES FOOTBALL
Dilley was able to bounce back into the win column last week, although it wasn’t easy in claiming a 16-0 shutout win over San Antonio South San West Campus last Friday.
The Wolves, who have struggled on offense for much of the season posted a shutout of the winless Cougars but managed only two scores on the night, although a third touchdown was negated by a penalty.
“Our defense continues to play tough,” DHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach David Silva said. “Our special teams are improving but offensively, we still have to improve our passing game.
“We just have too much speed to not be utilizing it in space.”
Dilley will be looking to make it two in a row this week as they open District 15-3A, Division II play against the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs.
The Mustangs are 3-3 this season and are currently enjoying a two-game win streak. The team opened the season with a 48-27 win over San Antonio Christian but then dropped three in a row, falling to Three Rivers, Flatonia and Wallis Brazos. Nixon-Smiley has since turned things around, defeating Comfort 40-34 and Karnes City 20-13 to even their record.
“Our defense will be tested this week versus the grind of Nixon-Smiley’s Slot T offense,” Coach Silva said of the challenge awaiting his defense.
Game time is slated for 7:3o p.m. at Gosch Field.
