Region competition at Judson’s Rutledge Stadium
High School marching bands from across South Texas will travel to Judson ISD on the northeast side of San Antonio on Saturday, October 15, for the annual University Interscholastic League Region 11 contest, whose top-ranked finalists will advance to Area competition.
The event, traditionally held at Hondo ISD’s Barry Field, has been moved to the DW Rutledge Stadium this year and includes bands from all school classifications, beginning at 10 a.m. with 1A schools and ending with the 6A schools from 8:15 p.m. onwards.
The 3A-ranked marching bands from Cotulla and Dilley high schools will perform with others of their classification from 12:15 p.m. onwards.
Cotulla High School’s Mighty Cowboy Band performs at 12:45 p.m., after Lytle and Natalia, with a show entitled “Dia de los Muertos” and including the songs “Manana,” “Tarde” and “Noche.”
Bands from Jourdanton, Poteet, and San Antonio West Campus perform next, and the Dilley High School Mighty Grey Wolf Band performs at 1:45 p.m. The show, entitled “Latin Fusion,” includes the songs “Malaguena,” “Havana,” and “El Cumbanchero.”
Bands from Hondo and Crystal City complete the roster for 3A competition before ratings are announced at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Bands from 4A high schools begin performing at 3 p.m., with Devine, Uvalde, and Kennedy, after which the Pearsall High School Maverick Marching Band takes the field at 3:45 p.m. The performance entitled “Coco,” includes the songs “Remember Me,” “Un Poco Loco,” “La Llorona,” “Proud Corazon” and “Malaguena” with a “Remember Me” reprise as closure.
Bands from San Antonio Memorial, Pleasanton, Carrizo Springs and Somerset complete the performances in 4A competition before ratings are announced at approximately 5 p.m.
Judges in the 1A through 4A competitions are Scott Hartsfield, Randy Leifeste and Charlie Munsell.
