DISTRICT 27-3A CROSS COUNTRY

Dilley Wolves Cross Counrty Team
Dilley’s Xavier Hernandez and Abraham Rodriguez both earned regional cross country qualifying bids to the Region IV, Class 3A event in Corpus Christi.
Injuries and illness have hampered the boys’ team in recent weeks and even leading up to the event.
“The boys did a super job competing against the number one and number seven teams in the state,” Dilley Head Cross Country Coach Victor Flores said. “Two weeks ago, we lost our number two runner with a sprained ankle; the week of the meet we lost our number five runner to the flu. We had no choice but to compete with what we had left. We then had another runner not able to finish the race, leaving our team with just four runners in the field.”
The Region IV, Class 3A meet will be held on Monday and Tuesday, October 24 and 25 on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
All four Dilley runners finished in the top 20 and three earned medals at the meet.
“It was hard for our girls, especially competing without our number one runner,” Flores said of the Lady Wolves. “We are very proud of how our athletes did, we will be back next season with a vengeance.”
