Representatives of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of South Texas, Connie Lopez and Mary Mason, attended National Night Out at Firemen’s Park in Pearsall earlier this month and distributed information on their advocacy work for children who have been removed from abusive or neglectful homes and who are going through court proceedings for foster and adoptive care. Volunteers in the organization study individual cases and the children’s short- and long-term needs, concerns and issues, and advocate for the youngsters’ care in front of judge. Many of the children are placed in the care of relatives. Some are in search of other foster and adoptive accommodation for their “forever home.” CASA of South Texas is active across the region, including Frio and La Salle counties. The organization is looking for volunteers and donors to serve or support the cause. For information, call CASA Supervisor Francie Gasch at (830) 267-1025.
