Pearsall closed out the year Tuesday, October 25 at home against Somerset.
Carrizo Springs and Uvalde earned narrow victories over Pearsall as the Lady Mavs saw their 2022 playoff hopes slip away in District 29-4A volleyball action last week.
League frontrunners Pleasanton, Floresville and Devine were dominant in wins over Pearsall but the Lady Mavs were eyeing a return to the playoffs as the possible fourth seed but needed wins over the Lady Loboes and Lady Wildcats to do it.
Pearsall notched a win over Uvalde in the first round of league play but in the rematch on October 12, lost in five sets, 3-2. Uvalde won a back-and-forth opener 27-25 before the Lady Mavs bounced back to take the second 25-22.
In another close outing, Uvalde won the third set 25-18 only to see Pearsall rally in the fourth 25-22. In the deciding fifth set, Uvalde pulled away for the 15-11 victory to take the match.
Pearsall has dropped five straight since defeating Somerset on September 30 to move to 2-5 in district.
Entering Tuesday’s season finale against Somerset, the Lady Mavs are 2-9 in district and three games out of fourth place.
Pearsall fell 3-0 to Floresville on October 7, losing 25-13, 25-17 and 25-13.
The team then lost another narrow decision to Carrizo Springs, falling 13-25, 25-12, 21-25, 26-28.
State-ranked Pleasanton earned a sweep on October 18, taking a 25-6, 25-14, 25-14 decision.
Pearsall played well in a sweep to Devine, falling 21-25, 15-25, 19-25 to the Arabians last Friday.
The Lady Eagles ran away with the district title at 11-0 and are 39-2 overall.
The team was at Uvalde Tuesday evening. Floresville finished in second at 9-2 and 28-8 overall and closed out their regular season by hosting Devine on Tuesday.
Devine was third at 8-3 and 25-16 overall. Carrizo Springs ultimately secured the fourth and final playoff spot with a 5-6 mark in league play.
Pearsall closed out the year Tuesday evening hosting Somerset. The Lady Mavs are 2-9 in 29-4A and are 4-24 for the year.
