Dilley’s Xavier Hernandez and Abraham Rodriguez and Dilley’s Carisia Rodriguez competed at the Region IV Class 3A cross country in Corpus Christi last week.
Hernandez finished 38th overall and Abraham was 55th in a field of 176 runners while Carisia placed 50th out of 168 participants in varsity action at the event, which was held on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
“This year did not end the way we expected,” DHS Head Cross Country Coach Victor Flores said. “We were unable to get out of district due to injuries, but nevertheless, we were able to get two runners to regionals.
“Our future looks bright and we are expecting a good turn out on both sides next season. I want to thank our parents and school personnel for their support this season.”
“Carisia continued to show up for practice every day and it showed at regionals,” CHS Head Cross Country Coach Jose Olvera said. “She shaved more than a couple of minutes off her time from her last performance at this same location.
“I am proud of her, she’s only a freshmen and has great potential for the upcoming year. My thanks to the parents, coaches and administrators who showed up to support her.”
