Cold weather means I crave soup. Craving soup means I crave tomato soup. It’s not easy to find tomato soup, so here’s a good recipe! Don’t be afraid to make some grilled cheese sandwiches to go with it!

Old Fashioned Cream of Tomato Soup, from Loretta Milley, Tim Miller Ranch, Great Bend, KS
As printed in Texas Longhorn Cookbook and Campfire Tales by The Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, 1998
1 (40 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (10 1/2 ounce) chicken broth, diluted
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon chopped onion
A pinch of baking soda
1 1/2 cups cream
1/2 cup milk
Mix tomatoes, chicken broth, butter, sugar, onions, and baking soda. Simmer 1 hour. Heat cream and milk in double boiler. Add cream and milk to tomato mixture. Serve and enjoy!
