TRAFFIC DEATHS IN FRIO, LA SALLE
A Pearsall man was killed and another injured in a head-on collision on Business IH-35 on Monday night, November 28.
Pearsall police say officers were dispatched to the far north side of town at 8:54 p.m. regarding a two-car accident.
Officers arrived to find 65-year-old Juan Sanchez behind the wheel of a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder that had been involved in a head-on collision.
According to a preliminary report on the case, Pearsall police officers and Highway Patrol troopers determined Sanchez had been traveling in the southbound lane when his sport utility vehicle veered into the opposite lane of traffic, colliding with a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Both Sanchez and the pickup driver were transported to San Antonio hospitals, where Sanchez died 10:42 p.m.
“We believe alcohol may have been a factor due to the SUV containing a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle and locating numerous alcoholic beverages, some open and some closed, throughout the vehicle,” the officer noted in the report.
