The Christmas season is in full swing in South Texas communities, and with it are the many charitable organizations who work towards brining joy and helping all local families and their children enjoy their holiday season. Stationed in front of the Family Dollar store in downtown Cotulla last week, La Salle County Sheriff Anthony Zertuche and his officers and administrative staff donned festive gear to encourage public participation in a toy drive that culminates in the second annual Blue Santa gift distribution, a pair of family events scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Encinal County Park, and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Plaza Florita in downtown Cotulla, also featuring foods, treats, Christmas music, and a bicycle prize drawing. Donations to the toy drive have come from local shoppers, benefactors, corporate sponsors and businesses in the area.
