The Pearsall High School JROTC cadets offered their support this holiday season to the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of South Texas through a toy drive for local court-appointed foster children. TSat Towns, Major Hafermann and Officer Jackson worked with the JROTC students in collecting the gifts, as they have for the last few years and, once, again, collected the most toys again this year. CASA is putting out the call for new volunteers to serve as advocates for the children when they go through court hearings. CASA members take on children’s cases, study their needs and concerns, and speak up for them in front of a judge in hearings that take place after the youngsters have been removed from abusive or neglectful homes by Child Protective Services. All those interested in serving the needs of children in Frio and La Salle counties should call Francie Gasch or Connie Lopez at (830) 267-1025.
