PEARSALL DROPS LEAGUE OPENER TO COYOTES FRIDAY EVENING

Pearsall had its three-game win streak snapped by Uvalde in the District 29-4A opener Friday evening, winning a 56-42 decision behind a strong second half push.
The Mavericks snapped a long losing skid with wins over Laredo Harmony, Dilley and Eagle Pass CC Winn, earning 48-32, 88-70 and 71-69 decisions.
Pearsall then opened league play on Friday and dropped a 14-point decision to the Coyotes.
Uvalde took the early lead, racing out to a 10-5 first period advantage. The Mavericks rallied in the second, getting buckets in the paint to pull even at the half at 15-15.
Uvalde outscored the Mavs 15-9 in the third to retake a 30-24 lead going into the fourth.
The Coyotes then pulled away in the fourth as they erupted for 26 points in the final stanza, outscoring Pearsall 26-18 down the stretch.
The Mavericks were at Carrizo Springs Tuesday evening for their second league outing and will return home this Friday, January 6 to host Pleasanton. The Eagles are currently ranked 24th in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A poll. Somerset, who Pearsall will play in a week, is ranked 13th in the same poll.
