WOLVES EARN TEAM TITLE AT SEASON-OPENING POWERLIFTING MEET IN NATALIA

Dilley wolves powerlifting team
Three Wolves’ athletes took top spots in their respective weight classes and the team earned the team title at the Natalia Powerlifting Meet last week in the season opening event.
Dilley edged rival Cotulla by two points for first place overall at the meet. The Wolves scored 42 points while the Cowboys finished with 40 points to take second at the contest. Pearsall scored 13 points and were seventh at the meet.
The Wolves’ Chris Medrano, Jonavyn Gonzales and Diego Torres were all first in their weight classes at the event. Medrano won the 132-lb. division with a total lift of 990 lbs. Gonzales was tops in the 165-lb. weight class with a total lift of 1,280 lbs., tops in the region. Torres won the 181-lb. division with a total weight of 1,185 lbs.
Anthony Guerra, Adrian Carrasco and Jonathan Eguia were all second in the 114, 242 and 308-lb. divisions. Guerra posted a total lift of 635 lbs. while Carrasco had a lift of 1,355 lbs., good for second overall in the region in his weight class. Eguia posted a total lift of 1,130 lbs.
Eric Rodriguez and Raul Molina both finished third in the 308 and 275-lb. divisions. Rodriguez tallied a total lift of 1,080 lbs. while Molina posted a lift of 1,375 lbs.
Roman Martel and Miguel Suarez were tenth overall in their divisions while Lionel Martinez was 12th overall at the event for Dilley.
Cotulla likewise had three athletes take top spots in their weight divisions as Joseph Salazar, Robert Sanchez and Kaleb Linares earned victories at 123, 275 and 308 lbs.
Salazar posted a total weight of 965 lbs. Sanchez a total lift of 1,615 lbs. as both topped the region in their respective divisions while Linares had a total lift of 1,580, good for second in the region.
Jesus Partida, Gerardo Gonzalez and Victor Moreno all finished second in the 165, 198 and super heavyweight divisions.
Partida notched a total lift of 1,110 lbs., Gonzalez posted a lift of 1,310 lbs. and Moreno racked a total weight of 1,335 lbs.
Seasar Garcia and Jevin Gonzales both finished fourth overall in their weight classes. Garcia tallied a total weight of 1,055 lbs. in the 165-lb. division while Gonzalez posted a lift of 950 lbs. in the 220-lb. weight class.
Cotulla’s Josue Ortiz, Jacob Sambrano and Andrew Salazar were sixth, seventh and eighth overall for the Cowboys at the event.
The Mavericks had a trio of lifters finish in third place in their weight divisions at the event.
Robbie Longoria, Kingston Martinez and Ryan Hughes garnered the highest rankings for Pearsall at the event in the 148, 165 and super heavyweight divisions.
Longoria topped out with a total weight of 1,085 lbs. in his division while Martinez posted a total lift of 1,100 lbs. and Hughes tallied 1,185 lbs. in his weight class.
All three ranked fourth overall in the region in their divisions.
Sebastian Carrillo was fourth in the 242-lb. division with a total weight of 1,220 lbs. while Diego Carrasco was fifth at 165 lbs. Israel Reyes also finished fifth at 198 lbs. for the Mavs. Carrillo recorded a total lift of 1,220 lbs., Carrasco had a lift of 1,045 lbs. and Reyes posted a lift of 1,150 lbs.
Walter Smart was seventh at 275 lbs. Ismael Gonzales finished eighth in the same division while Carlos Garza was tenth in the 220-lb. weight class.
