GIRLS’ POWERLIFTING
Pearsall finished second and Dilley was third overall in powerlifting action at the Cotulla Invitational #2 meet on Wednesday, January 18.
The Lady Mavs’ Deranda Talamantes and Lady Wolves’ Kelsey Eguia and Aundrea Rodriguez all took first in their respective weight divisions at the meet.
Talamantes won the 165-lb. weight class with a total lift of 725 lbs. Eguia was tops at 198 lbs. with a total weight of 890 lbs. while Rodriguez posted a first place lift of 745 lbs. in the 220-lb. division.
Pearsall had nine lifters finish fifth or higher at the event.
Jesslyn Gutierrez was second at 181 lbs. with a total lift of 640 lbs. Jayden Briseno was third at 165 with a lift of 505 lbs.
Gabriella Longoria, Victoria Aguilar, Kyndra McCue and Jecelyn Chavera were all fourth in the 123, 148, 181 and 198-lb. weight divisions for Pearsall. Maria Urrea and Maddison Luera were both fifth at 132 and 148 lbs. while Dominique Sambrano was sixth in the 198-lb. division and Andrina Benavides was ninth at 148 lbs.
Dilley’s Krysten Ruiz, Reyna Martel and Madison Duran were all second at 123, 132 and 220 lbs. Ruiz posted a total lift of 590 lbs., Martel had a total weight of 760 lbs. and Duran tallied a total lift of 720 lbs.
Esmeralda Rodriguez was tenth overall for the Lady Wolves in the 148-lb. weight class.
Both teams will return to action on Wednesday, February 1 at the Dilley Invitational meet.
