COWGIRLS’ RALLY FALLS SHORT VS. CRYSTAL CITY; TEAM TOPS DILLEY

Despite a furious fourth period rally, Cotulla came up short in a 53-50 loss to Crystal City but bounced back to topple rival Dilley 56-25 to split league games last week.
The Cowgirls currently sit fourth in the league standings, a game behind Hondo and one game up on fifth place Natalia.
Allyse Leija paced the Cowgirls in scoring in both outings, going for 18 points against Crystal City and 16 points in the win over Dilley.
In a tight affair against the Lady Javelinas, Cotulla trailed 26-23 at the half but were outscored 18-10 in the third and fell behind 44-33 going into the fourth. Cotulla rallied in the final frame, outpointing Crystal City 17-9 down the stretch but came up three points short.
Sedelia Wilson-Larkin added 14 points and Alinna Botello scored eight points. Jasmine De La Garza finished with six points while JoAnn Guzman added four points.
Cotulla then rolled up IH-35 on Friday to take on rival Dilley.
The Cowgirls sprinted out of the gates and rolled up a 17-5 lead in the first and 28-12 advantage at intermission.
Cotulla then outscored the Lady Wolves 18-2 in the third to put the game away.
Miranda Gonzalez finished with ten points while Botello added nine. Wilson-Larkin added seven points while Quiana Mendez tallied five points and Raeanna Galindo had four points.
Cotulla improved to 18-6 for the year and 2-3 in District 28-3A. Lytle sits atop the standings at 5-0 while Crystal City is second at 4-1. Hondo is 2-2 and a game ahead of Cotulla due to head-to-head matchups.
In key games this week, Cotulla was at Hondo Tuesday evening and will host Lytle on Friday as they begin the second round of league play.
