An attempt to effect a traffic stop on a reckless driver in downtown Pearsall two weeks ago turned into a high-speed pursuit and ended in a car crash south of the city.
Frio County deputies are reporting that while on routine patrol Thursday morning, January 19, they noticed a man driving recklessly in a Dodge sedan when he turned south onto Oak Street from Comal Street.
The man, later identified as 30-year-old Roberto Ramos, then led officers in a pursuit south through Pearsall on Business IH-35.
Topping speeds at over 100 mph, Ramos lost control of the sedan in a curve near Milemarker 93, according to the report.
“The way he was driving through town is unacceptable,” Frio Lt. Joshua Longoria said of the case last week. “He could have lost control of the vehicle in town and threatened the lives of many. We will continue to patrol all parts of the county.”
Ramos was transported to a San Antonio hospital to receive medical treatment for injuries he sustained in the crash.
Longoria confirmed that Ramos is a South Texas native and has been working in the area.
Ramos faces charges of reckless driving and evading arrest.
