COWBOYS DOMINATE FIELD, TAKE FIRST OVERALL AT COTULLA INVITATIONAL POWERLIFTING MEET

COTULLA’s Robert Sanchez clears a lift of 620 lbs. in the deadlift during action at the Cotulla Invitational #2 last Wednesday, January 25. Sanchez currently sits in first in the region in his weight class.
Hosting their annual powerlifting invitational, Cotulla claimed the overall team title in the boys’ division during action last Wednesday, January 25.
Six lifters earned first place medals overall for the Cowboys while two others were second in their respective divisions and two more placed third.
Joseph Salazar, Gerardo Gonzalez, Robert Sanchez, Kaleb Linares and Victor Moreno all earned top spots in their weight classses.
Salazar posted a total weigh of 1,030 lbs. in the 123-lb. weight class, Gonzalez tallied a total lift of 1,420 lbs. at 198 lbs., Sanchez had a total weight of 1,735 lbs. in the 275-lb. division, Linares posted a total lift of 1,700 lbs. at 308 lbs. and Moreno had a lift of 1,395 lbs. in the super heavyweight class.
Jimmy Rodriguez and Jevin Gonzalez were both second in the 132 and 220-lb. divisions, respectively. Rodriguez notched a total lift of 675 lbs. while Gonzalez recorded a total weight of 1,040 lbs.
Finishing third were Jose Gonzalez at 148 lbs. and Jesus Partida at 165 lbs. Gonzalez tallied a total lift of 1,020 lbs. while Partida posted a lift of 1,170 lbs.
Seasar Garcia and Josue Ortiz both finished fourth overall at 165 and 181 lbs.
Fidel Alvarez and Andrew Salazar were fifth at 198 and 242 lbs. while Jansel Rodriguez, Isaac Cerda, Jacob Sambrano, Thomas Garcia and Justin Remillard were all sixth in the 148, 165, 181, 198 and 242-lb. weight classes, respectively.
Eduardo Ortega was seventh for the Cowboys at 181 lbs. while Elryk Nieto was eighth in the same division.
Salazar and Sanchez are both currently ranked atop their weight classes in the region while Linares is second in the region at his weight class.
The Cowboys will return to action on Wednesday, February 8 at the Dilley Invitational #2 meet.
