MAVS FINISH FIRST, LADY MAVS SECOND AT POWERLIFTING MEETS IN SAN ANTONIO, DILLEY

Pearsall’s powerlifting teams were first and second overall in action last week in San Antonio and Dilley.
The Mavericks were team champions at the Texas Strength Systems UTSA Invitational #10 in San Antonio on Thursday, February 2 while the Lady Mavs finished second at the Dilley Invitational on Wednesday, February 1.
Marc Ramirez, Kingston Martinez, Gabriel Gutierrez and Ryan Hughes all took first in their respective weight classes while Ariel Hernandez, Sebastian Carrillo and Joseph De La Rosa were second. Walter Smart was fourth overall in the 275-lb. division.
Ramirez posted a total weight of 570 lbs. at 114 lbs. while Martinez had a lift of 1,300 lbs. in the 165-lb. weight class. Gutierrez won the 275-lb. division with a total lift of 1,645 lbs. and Hughes took first at super heavyweight with a total lift of 1,240 lbs.
Martinez and Gutierrez are currently tops in the region at their weight classes. The team has six lifters ranked in the top ten regionally in their respective weight classes.
Deranda Talamantes won her weight class at the Dilley Invitational, posting a total weight of 840 lbs. in the 165-lb. division. She is currently ranked eighth in the region in her weight class.
The Lady Mavs were second overall as a team at the event, finishing behind Cotulla and edging past Dilley.
Mariana Urrea and Jesslyn Gutierrez both finished second at 132 and 181 lbs. while Angelina Reyna, Gabriella Longoria and Victoria Aguilar were third at 105, 123 and 165 lbs.
Kydra McCue and Jacelynn Chavera were both fourth for Pearsall while Dominique Sambrano was sixth and Maddison Luera finished seventh. Adrina Benavides was also 13th overall for the Lady Mavs.
The Mavericks returned to action at the Dilley Invitational this week while the Lady Mavs will compete in the final regional qualifying meet on Wednesday, February 15 at Natalia.
