COTULLA RETURNS TO BASKETBALL PLAYOFF’S WITH FIRST ROUND CLASH IN PEARSALL

Cotulla Cowgirls Basketball Team
Cotulla crushed rival Dilley 60-26 in the District 28-3A finale on Tuesday, February 7 to secure a bi-district playoff date with Jourdanton, champions of District 27-3A, Tuesday evening in Pearsall.
The Cowgirls have been through an up and down season, bouncing back from a 2-3 start to win 14 games in a row heading into district play.
In a revamped district field that saw both Hondo and Crystal City drop down from the Class 4A ranks, Cotulla dropped three of their first four outings to sit 1-3 in the standings. The team then turned things around, winning four of the final six contests to finish 5-5 and secure the fourth and final playoff spot.
The Squaws are 28-4 this season and were co-champs at 7-1 in 27-3A with Poth but earned the top seed in the playoff standings.
Jourdanton, ranked 19th in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 3A poll, has won 12 of its last 13 games and outscored its district opponents by an average margin of 28 points per contest.
Tip off was Tuesday evening in Pearsall. The winner will take on Edna this weekend in an Area playoff matchup. Edna, the third place team in 25-3A, topped Randolph 67-64 Monday evening.
