FEW HAVE FILED SO FAR TO CHALLENGE INCUMBENTS
With three days left in the filing period for a place at the council table, Pearsall City Hall is confirming this week that only four potential candidates have filed for places on the May 6 election ballot.
As of Tuesday morning, Mayor Ben Brisoce has submitted his name for re-election and will face challenger Albert Alvarez.
Alvarez served as mayor from 2011 to 2014, before resigning his position to run for county clerk.
Incumbent Councilor Tiffany Talamantes is seeking re-election for Place 5 and, as of Tuesday, is running unopposed.
Place 6, currently held by Lionel Gandara, has no applications for the seat.
Councilor Davina Rodriguez, who currently holds Place 7, has submitted her application and is currently unopposed.
The deadline to file for a council seat is 5 p.m. Friday, February 17.
