Pearsall and Dilley will each send seven lifters to regional competition following action at the Natalia Invitational on Wednesday, February 15, the final qualfying meet of the season.
The Lady Mavs’ Deranda Talamantes and Star Rodriguez were both second in the region at their weight classes, 165 and super heavyweight, respectively while Jesslyn Gutierrez, Mariana Urrea, Angelina Reyna, Maddison Luera and Jacelynn Chavera all also earned qualifying regional bids for Pearsall.
Dilley’s Reyna Martel, Aundrea Rodriguez and Kelsey Eguia also placed second regionally in their respective weight classes while Krysten Ruiz, Madison Duran, Kassidy Romero and Esmeralda Rodriguez all also earned regional bids for the Lady Wolves.
Lifters who finish in the top 12 regionally in their weight class or who reach a qualifying total in their division advance to regional competition.
Dilley finished sixth at the Natalia meet while Pearsall was tenth overall at the event.
Eguia was second in the 220-lb. weight class with a total lift of 955 lbs. Martel and Rodriguez were both fourth in the 132 and 198-lb. divisions while Madison Duran placed fifth in the 198-lb. weight class.
Esmeralda Rodriguez was ninth for the Lady Wolves at 132 lbs. and Kassidy Romero was 11th at 181 lbs.
Jayden Briseno finished sixth overall in the 165-lb. weight class for Pearsall while Urrea was also sixth at 132 lbs. Gutierrez finished seventh at 181 lbs. while Adrina Benavides was eighth in the 148-lb. division.
Kyndra McCue finished tenth in the 165-lb. weight division and Gabriella Longoria was 11th at 123 lbs.
The Region V, Division 2 and 3 meet is on Saturday, March 4 at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown.
Regional competitors can qualify for the state meet by either finishing first or second in her weight class; by posting a qualifying total for their respective weight class or by qualifying within the “top two rule by classification.
