ARANDA CAPTURES FOUR GOLD MEDALS, DILLEY FINISHES A POINT BEHIND BRACKETTVILLE FOR SECOND
Dilley kicked off the 2023 track and field season with a third place finish in action at the Bulldog Relays in La Pryor on Wednesday, February 22.
Bandera won the event while Dilley, competing with only eight total athletes, finished a single point behind second place Brackettville in the standings.
“For being our first meet and just coming out of basketball I was very impressed with the way both our varsity and JV boys performed,” DHS Head Track Coach Victor Flores said. “It is early in the season and it is hard right now for our multiple sport athletes.
“For only having two weeks of conditioning and being our first meet of the season, we competed very well, hopefully our other athletes will come along and help us out down the road. We would love to have more guys out there to put together some relays.”
Dorian Aranda captured four gold medals for the Wolves as he picked up where he left off a year ago, taking first in the triple jump, long jump and 100m and 200m dash events.
He clocked in with a 10.68 in the 100m and 22.76 in the 200m dash. He won the triple with a leap of 42’5″ and the long jump with a distance of 20’10”.
Esai Lozano also captured gold in the 400m dash, recording a time of 52.43. He was second in the 200m dash at 23.03 and helped the mile relay team of Abraham Rodriguez, Jorge Herrada and Aranda finish second at 3:40.
Xavier Hernandez was second in the two mile run and also finished third in the mile. Brazos Viesca was third in the two mile for Dilley, as well.
Rodriguez placed fifth in the 800m run and Juan Garcia was sixth in the 400m dash.
Dilley’s junior varsity team finished fourth out of eight teams and also competed with only eighth athletes.
JV results are as follows: discus, Eric Delgado, fifth, 68’4″; 800m dash, Pavlo Reyes, fourth, Julian Cruz, fifth, Angel Martinez, sixth; 100m dash, Armando Gauna, second, 12.03, Jacob Garcia, fifth, 12.43; 300m hurdles, Angel Martinez, second, 49.84; 200m dash, Armando Gauna, third, 25.75, Troy Gonzales, sixth, 26.31; 1,600m run, Julian Cruz, sixth, 5:52; 1,600m relay, Troy Gonzales, Angel Martinez, Pavlo Reyes, Armando Gauna, third.
Dilley was in action on Wednesday, March 1 at the Wildcat Relays in Carrizo Springs.
