PEARSALL SOFTBALL

Sophie Garza beats the throw at second for a double against Floresville Friday night.
Pearsall bounced back from a tough loss to Floresville on Friday evening and routed Uvalde to remain a game back of the Tigers in the district softball standings this week.
Floresville, currently first in District 29-4A, opened up a 6-0 first inning lead en route to a 20-11 victory over Pearsall last Friday. The Lady Mavs then took on Uvalde Tuesday morning in another key league outing and methodically roughed up the Lady Lobos in a 13-0 shutout victory.
Pearsall belted out 11 hits over five innings as the team won via then ten-run rule. Uvalde was limited to three hits and committed four errors.
The Lady Mavs plated a pair of runs in the first and made it 6-0 after two innings of play. Two more runs in the third saw the Pearsall lead go to 9-0. The Lady Mavs then added three more in the fourth and two in the fifth to finish off the contest.
Pearsall was outgunned in their loss to Floresville last Friday. The team trailed 6-0 at the top of the first but cut into the margin at the bottom of the inning thanks to Maddie Bradley’s three-run homerun, making it 6-4. Floresville’s lead surged to 13-6 in the third before the Lady Mavs rallied once more with four runs at the bottom of the fourth as the lead was cut to 13-8.
Trailing 16-11 going into the final stanza, Pearsall surrendered four runs at the top of the seventh and could muster no runs in their final at-bat in falling by nine.
Pearsall notched a 9-4 non-district decision to Hondo as their record now improves to 8-5 for the year and 3-1 in league play. Floresville still sits atop the standings at 4-0 while Uvalde dropped to third at 3-2. Devine is a game behind the Lady Lobos at 2-2 while Carrizo Springs, Somerset and Pleasanton are all winless in district play.
