PEARSALL DOMINATES FIELD IN TAKING DECISIVE TEAM VICTORY AT ANNUAL TRACK MEET

Pearsall dominated in nearly every aspect of competition in earning the team title at the annual Edye Lea Relays on Saturday at Mack Laxson Field.
The Mavericks finished with 191-1/2 points to top second place Eagle Pass, who had 169-1/2 points. Devine was third with 101 points.
Pearsall’s Lady Mavs finish third in their field, coming in behind Eagle Pass and Devine.
“We performed very well. It was a hot day, so our athletes ran a lot of personal records,” Pearsall Boys’ Track Coach Julian Hernandez said. “We had a lot of guys step up onto the varsity level and compete very well.
“We are very proud of all our athletes and their performances going into Spring Break.”
The Mavericks took first in seven different events and had multiple athletes place in numerous events as the team racked up the points.
Joey Ramirez spearheaded the Pearsall scoring as he took first in three different events.

Although Jezzie Leal garnered Pearsall’s only gold medal on the girls’ side, several athletes earned silver and gold medals in numerous events as the Lady Mavs kept pace with Eagle Pass and Devine.
Leal won the high jump by tying her personal best in the event at 5’4″. She was also second in the 100m and 300m hurdle events.

“First, on behalf of the PHS and PJH Track and Field programs, we want to thank our coaches, parents, administrators, maintenance staff and volunteers for helping to put on a great track meet,” Coach Hernandez said. “It went very smooth.”
Pearsall’s junior varsity teams were both third in action at the event.
