Burning embers and smoke reach high into the pre-dawn sky over Dilley on Thursday last week as firefighters work to extinguish a blaze at an abandoned apartment complex. While causes of the fire remain undetermined, nearby residents have reported seeing unauthorized tenants occupying the building. There have been no reports of injuries from the fire.
Frio County law enforcement officers continue to investigate a fire that destroyed an abandoned apartment building in Dilley on Thursday, March 23.
The early morning blaze was contained within minutes of being reported to emergency dispatchers.
For years the apartment complex that sits at the intersection of Miller and Phelps streets has been abandoned and at this time, according to a report on the case, the cause of the fire is unknown.
“We assisted Dilley police in working the scene,” Lt. Joshua Longoria said earlier this week. “We will continue to help them with the investigation.”
Dilley volunteer fire firefighters were able to contain the flames, relieving danger to the residential neighborhood.
