Frio County employees past and present, government officials, courthouse staffers and former County Judge Arnulfo Luna joined present Judge Rochelle Camacho in saluting Carlos “Chale” Garcia in his formal funeral procession past the county courthouse in Pearsall on Wednesday morning, April 5. Garcia served as county judge for twenty years between 1994 and 2014, when he resigned his position after being re-elected. He died March 29 at the age of 73. His tenure at the bench took place during a period of growth for Frio County in infrastructure, detention facility construction, and the development of the oil and gas exploration over the Eagle Ford Shale, affecting the South Texas economy. Judge Garcia promoted advocacy programs, social services and veterans’ affairs, and was known for his local engagement in community music festivals. (CURRENT Photo: Manuel Azocar III)
