LOCAL TEAMS PARTICIPATE IN DISTRICT MEETS WITH SHOTS AT AREA COMPETITION ON THE LINE
Area qualifying berths were on the line this week as Pearsall, Dilley and Cotulla compete in their respective district track and field competitions in Cotulla and Somerset.
Pearsall is in Somerset on Wednesday and Thursday, April 12 and 13 for the 29-4A event while Cotulla will play host to the 28-3A event at Myers Memorial Stadium on the same days.
In Somerset, all field events and the 3,200m run were scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12.
Running prelims for the girls’ 100m hurdles, boys’ 110m hurdles, 100m dash, 400m dash, 300m hurdles and 200m dash were held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Running finals at the 29-4A event will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. Finals will be run on a schedule and is as follows: 4 p.m. – 400m relay, 4:15 p.m. – 800m run, 4:35 p.m. – 100m hurdles, 4:45 p.m. – 110m hurdles, 5 p.m. – 100m dash, 5:15 p.m. – 800m relay, 5:35 p.m. – 400m dash, 5:50 p.m. – 300m hurdles, 6:10 p.m. – 200m dash, 6:25 p.m. – 1,600m run, 7 p.m. – 1,600m relay.
In Cotulla, events will also be run across both days. Action opened on Wednesday morning with the 3,200m run and varsity pole vault, junior varsity high jump, varsity triple jump, JV long jump, varsity discus and JV shot put all beginning at 10 a.m.

Action on Thursday at Cotulla starts at 2 p.m. with the JV pole vault, varsity high jump, JV triple jump, varsity long jump, JV discus and varsity shot put.
Running finals will begin at 5 p.m. and will run on a set schedule. That schedule is as follows: 5 p.m. – 400m relay, 5:15 p.m. – 800m run, 5:30 p.m. – 100m hurdles/110m hurdles, 5:45 p.m. – 100m dash, 6 p.m. – 800m relay, 6:15 p.m. – 400m dash, 6:30 p.m. – 300m hurdles, 6:45 p.m. – 200m dash, 7 p.m. – 1,600m run, 7:15 p.m. – 1,600m relay.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for area competition. Fifth place finishers advance as alternates and will compete if any of the top four qualifiers cannot compete at area.
