PEARSALL BASEBALL
Pearsall’s youthful Mavericks fell behind early and could not make up enough ground in dropping a 10-4 decision to Floresville last week and dropped their fourth straight district contest in baseball action.
The Mavericks led 1-0 at the top of the first but the Tigers plated three runs at the bottom of the inning and added five more in the fifth as they built an 8-2 advantage. Pearsall kept chipping away with runs in the fourth and fifth innings but surrendered two more in the sixth as Floresville pulled away for the 10-4 victory.
The loss was Pearsall’s fourth straight following a 2-1 start to league play. The team is now tied for fourth in the standings with Somerset, but have lost the current tiebreaker to the Bulldogs.
Pearsall can gain momentum this week as they take on a pair of teams they defeated in the first round of district play in Uvalde and Carrizo Springs.
The Mavs hosted Uvalde Tuesday evening and will be at Carrizo Springs on Friday, April 14.
Pleasanton currently sits atop the standings at 7-0 while Floresville is second at 6-1. Devine is third at 6-2. Uvalde is 2-6 in league play while Carrizo Springs is winless at 0-6 overall.
