Dorian Aranda edges the competition to win the 100m dash at the District 28-3A meet in Cotulla last week.
Dorian Aranda tore through the competition, earning five gold medals in action at the District 28-3A track and field meet in Cotulla to lead Dilley to the runner-up spot at the event last week.
Lytle swept the event, winning the district title with 162 points. Dilley scored 126 points at the event.
Aranda earned medals in the 100m dash, 200m dash, mile relay, long jump and triple jump. Esai Lozano also earned gold medals in the mile relay and 400m dash for Dilley.
“I knew we were in for a fight for the district championship,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said. “We were going to be outnumbered by the bigger schools, we just could not come up with three athletes in every event. I’m very proud of our athletes at how they handle the pressure and fought to the very end.
“Just before I stepped out of the bus on Thursday, I told our athletes about Coach Salazar’s passing (former long-time DHS coach Robert Salazar) and told them to run every race in his honor because he had planned to come see them compete.”
